TBH, only done 1 so far, and played it safe, generally about 0.5-0.8 AFR richer throughout the whole rev range. So 11.8/12.0ish on spool up and flat 11.2ish on WOT. No leaner than 11.5 on WOT.

However, I generally don't like mapping them.

whats your beef with them herman, what dont you like about them

Overly complicated, weak engines and don't make great figures for the hassle. Now rotaries on the other hand, they are a pain in the ass too, but at least you get over 300 BHP from a 1.3!! That is worth it, the boxer engine just isn't.

Don't get me wrong, if someone wants one done, I won't say no, but I prefer to map 4G63's, SR20's, 1JZ's, 2JZ's, RB's, etc, etc. Good strong reliable engines that perform well without worrying about something melting.

I've been asked to do scoobs on occasion, and they all get the same two word reply (begins with F and ends with F) :D

anyone know why the thread was removed? was it Andy trying to protect the 'geekmapper.com' name?

Basically the person got a full engine build (or whole engine that was freshly built) and went to the mappers to get Kelford 272's fitted and mapped. Got the 272's in, and then the valves made contact with the pistons, damaging the head, valves & cams.

So the owner got a new head, new cams, titanium springs & retainers. Got them fitted, by the same person (mapper),but he did not properly lap the valves and apparently never fitted the titanium retainers or new springs (thats what Norris told the owner when this new head was sent down for inspection after the engine let go),however the car still ran. Went out to map it, as they upped the boost the piston let go, appears to be the piston that made contact with the valve that let go.

Now he wants the mapper to fix it. It's the mechanical work he is annoyed with, not the map itself. To me it sounds like when the piston made contact with the valve it damaged it and weakened it, then when upping the boost it gave up. I am also 99% sure I know who said mapper is by various bits of information I have gathered.

There is more to it, but that was the gist of the thread TBH.
