Ok so we have a trailer in at the moment we are using as a fill in job. Symptoms are that when connected to van/car it blows the sidelight fuse.

I pulled apart the circuit and wired everything back in to the block connector properly as before some were overloaded and some were under loaded. This didn't cure anything, I have narrowed down nothing I cannot seem to locate a short.

Now I thought I had fixed it as I plugged it in and no fuses blow, all lights working perfect, as soon as I hitch it up to the towbar....POP goes the fuse it seems to be grounding out somehow.

Anyone come across this before? If so how do you get around it without re wiring the whole thing

silly question have you checked to see if the body of the trailer has negative ground to match the car ??

if the short is from positive from the trailer wiring to the trailer body then when connecting back to the car" negative ground " will blow fueses or melt wires ?

just a idea :O)

I've sussed it the guy who wired it made a ground for some strange reason even though he was told he didn't have to, and he fed a live to it, so I have removed it and all workin spot on now, so simple I wasn't even looking for it
